Amazing things
happen to people who attend our Special Events
and start putting new skills and ideas into action. Here are two current
stories from two participants in Creating
an Inspired Business. Alice, who wrote the first message,
also attended Camp
Jumpstart, where she met Linda and Renee (mentioned in her
piece).
I'm writing
you from Cloud 9 to tell you that the Universe and all its creatures did
me a huge favor last night at the first ever Dog Lovers Night Out in my
neighborhood, Linden Hills.
From 6 to 8 p.m., close to 200 people showed up with their dogs to hear
live music, see the amazing good a local shelter is doing in the effort
to rescue hurricane Katrina pets, meet a local K-9 Police Team and to
participate in the cutest dog tricks contest.
I am so happy I could just cry. Driving in to set up for the event I had
a very interesting feeling of calm. There had been a huge storm here in
the Twin Cities and its suburbs the night before that caused lots of damage
to homes and trees and power loss to more than 150,000 people. Yet our
area of the city was not touched and the sky was perfectly clear with
the slight feel of a crispy fall in the air. I think I heard a voice tell
me when I arrived that I was doing what I was meant to do.
I'm also thrilled to report that our Linda Strommer is officially the
queen of silly. She had the debut of her new company (which I'll let her
tell you about) all dressed up, with Renee's help, as the Fairy Dog Mother!
She handed out treats to all the little dogs, as well as the funniest
little sheet of "Dog's Property Rights." I think Linda will
be adding to her costume repertoire over time and discovering amazing
things she has been waiting her whole life to do—again. I'm anxious
to hire her for another event coming up called, "Dogtoberfest."
The best thing is: this event was put on for a shoe string. And I think
what really worked was that it came from a place where I'm most passionate,
so the words in our marketing pieces really struck a chord with the people
I wanted to play with.

I'm doing
WONDERFULLY....on all counts. As I type this, I'm crotch-deep in dogs,
as my dog-boarding business is now to a point where I am turning away
more than I take! For the first time in my life, I can pick and choose
what I take on. Would I have been able to do this in my 35 years in the
classroom?
It's a glorious feeling and time for me. I'm also doing countless other
jobs, all at my own initiative and direction. The other week, a totally
unknown-to-me woman, who got my name—as is almost always the case—from
another client, called me, in total frustration, to "come and explain
'getting your period' to my daughter! I've tried three times, and we're
both nervous wrecks over it. Please help!" Of course, I did just
that, having taught fifth grade since Jesus was a boy, so I've been introducing
puberty forever.
I came down from the girl's bedroom, where I had done my little talk,
and said to the mom, "Done! But you have 20 minutes left to your
hour. Anything else need doing?" I then ended up taking her son's
tuba to school for him.
Oh, how I
LOVE working for ME! Where else would I get these kinds of experiences?
